MindWarden Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 20, 2026

Last updated: July 20, 2026

MindWarden is a local-first digital wellbeing app. It helps you block distracting apps and websites, run focus and Phone Lock sessions, and review on-device Progress statistics.

MindWarden does not currently provide accounts or cloud sync, does not include advertising, remote analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs, and the Android app does not request the INTERNET permission. Policy and support links open in your browser.

Data MindWarden Accesses And Stores

Apps On Your Device

MindWarden accesses app package names, app labels, app icons, and installation state so you can choose apps to block and see app-level Progress information. Your selected blocked-app rules and distraction selections are stored locally on your device.

With your separate Android Usage Access permission, MindWarden reads app-usage events and aggregate foreground-use durations. This powers local screen-time charts, most-used-app rankings, distracting-app usage, focus-goal recommendations, before-and-after comparisons, and Saved Time estimates.

Accessibility Data

When you enable MindWarden's Accessibility service, MindWarden can detect the foreground app and inspect the visible window content needed to read the current address-bar value in supported browsers. It uses this access to enforce the app, website, adult-content, Safe Search, social-media, unsupported-browser, and Phone Lock protections you choose.

MindWarden does not use Accessibility to read messages, passwords, private chats, or unrelated personal content. App and browser checks are performed locally on your device.

Blocked Websites And Block Events

User-entered website rules are normalized to domains and stored locally.

When MindWarden successfully blocks a website, it stores the normalized domain, the block category or rule source, and a timestamp in its local database. This limited record powers block totals, time-of-day grouping, and most-blocked website statistics. It does not store the full URL, page path, page content, search text, or a general history of websites that were not blocked.

For supported browsers, visible address-bar text may be processed temporarily in memory to determine the current domain and apply your local rules. It is not uploaded by MindWarden.

Adult-Content, Safe Search, And Social-Media Protection

Adult Blocking compares the current domain, and limited URL or domain keyword rules used for blocking, with bundled local rules. No remote classification request is made.

Automatic Adult Lock counts only successful matches against the explicit adult-domain blocklist or an adult top-level-domain rule. Keyword-only matches may be blocked but are not counted toward the automatic-lock threshold.

Safe Search may rewrite a supported search URL locally to add safer-result parameters. Search text is not saved to MindWarden's analytics database.

Social-media blocking uses your local platform selections and local app/domain rules. Successful social-media blocks may be retained as app-package or normalized-domain block events with timestamps for Progress.

Focus, Phone Lock, And Protection State

MindWarden stores focus and Phone Lock session identifiers, start and end times, planned and completed durations, completion or cancellation state, scheduled-lock configuration, protection availability, and the minimum direct-boot state needed to restore or complete a lock after a restart.

Optional Device Admin access lets MindWarden call Android's lock function for a user-started Phone Lock, a configured schedule, or a configured Automatic Adult Lock. Device Admin also adds Android's normal deactivation step before uninstalling an active device-admin app. MindWarden does not set, learn, or transmit your PIN, pattern, or password.

Block Screen Customization

MindWarden stores your Block Screen message, quote, style, visibility choices, and optional local image reference. The image is not uploaded by MindWarden.

Data Collection And Sharing

The current app does not transmit the data described above off your device. It does not sell or share app inventory, usage statistics, browsing data, block events, custom images, or settings with MindWarden or third parties.

Under Google Play's Data safety definition, data accessed and processed only on the device without off-device transmission is not treated as collected. Local access is still disclosed here because it matters to users and institutions evaluating the app.

Storage, Retention, And Security

MindWarden stores rules, settings, session state, and Progress data using Android app-private Room databases, DataStore files, and private preferences. Detailed Progress event rows are kept until you clear Progress data, clear MindWarden's app storage, or uninstall the app. Android Usage Access data remains managed by Android; MindWarden queries it when calculations are needed.

MindWarden's backup rules exclude blocker databases, DataStore files, Accessibility activation preferences, and direct-boot Phone Lock state from cloud backup and device transfer. You should still protect access to your unlocked device because local app data may be accessible on a compromised or rooted device.

Your Choices And Deletion

  • Enable or disable optional protection features.
  • Revoke Usage Access, Accessibility, notification, exact-alarm, or Device Admin access in Android settings.
  • Remove individual blocked apps and websites.
  • Clear Progress data from MindWarden.
  • Clear all local MindWarden data in Android app settings.
  • Uninstall MindWarden after deactivating Device Admin if it is active.

MindWarden has no server account or cloud profile to delete in the current release.

Children

MindWarden is not designed for children or managed child accounts.

Changes

This policy will be updated before a release adds cloud sync, accounts, network classification, telemetry, advertising, subscriptions, or any SDK that transmits user or device data.
