MindWarden Privacy Policy

MindWarden is a local-first digital wellbeing app. It helps you block distracting apps and websites, configure focus sessions, and customize your Block Screen. MindWarden does not currently use cloud sync, accounts, advertising SDKs, or analytics SDKs.

Information MindWarden processes

Blocked apps

When you choose apps to block, MindWarden stores the app name, package name, enabled state, optional daily limit, and creation time locally on your device. Package names are used only to identify apps for blocker rules.

Blocked websites

When you add websites to block, MindWarden stores normalized domains locally on your device. MindWarden does not store browsing history.

Accessibility permission

MindWarden uses Accessibility permission only to detect when blocked apps or supported browser websites are opened, so it can show your Block Screen. MindWarden does not read your messages, passwords, private chats, or personal content.

Browser URL/domain checks

For supported browsers, MindWarden may read the currently visible address bar text through Accessibility. This is processed in memory and compared against local block rules, local adult-domain assets, Safe Search rules, and social-media platform settings. MindWarden does not upload URLs, store browsing history, or sell browsing activity.

Adult Blocking

Adult Blocking uses a bundled local domain list asset. No network request is made to check adult domains in the MVP.

Safe Search

Safe Search may rewrite supported search URLs locally to add safer search parameters. The original URL is not stored or uploaded.

Social Media Blocking

Social Media Blocking uses local platform selections and local app/domain lists. Your selections are stored locally.

Phone Lock

Phone Lock stores the active session state locally, including start time, end time, selected duration, and emergency unlock state. A foreground notification may be shown during active sessions.

Usage Access

Usage Access should only be requested when a visible screen-time feature is available. If enabled in a future version, MindWarden will use it only to calculate screen time locally.

Device Admin

Device Admin is optional and is used only for Uninstall Protection. It adds friction against impulsive uninstalling during your selected detox period. It is not impossible to bypass.

Block Screen customization

MindWarden stores your custom Block Screen message, quote, visibility options, background style, and optional custom image URI locally. Custom images are not uploaded.

Data sharing

MindWarden does not sell, share, or upload your app blocking rules, browsing activity, app usage, custom images, or settings.

Data storage

MindWarden stores local data using Android Room and DataStore. Current backup rules exclude local blocker databases and DataStore preferences from cloud backup to avoid restoring stale lock/protection state onto another device.

Deleting data

You can delete MindWarden local data by removing blocked apps/websites in the app, clearing app storage in Android settings, or uninstalling MindWarden after disabling Device Admin if it is active.

Children

MindWarden is not currently designed for children or managed child accounts.

Changes

This policy will be updated whenever MindWarden adds cloud sync, accounts, analytics, payments, advertising, or remote blocklists.
